Hello technology lover! Today I introduce you to a project that is both creative and functional: Mini Powerbank Design. If you have old batteries lying idle in your drawer or are interested in DIY projects, this guide is for you.

What is our goal?

Our goal is to DIY (do it yourself), produce a stylish, portable, convenient and fast charging supported mini powerbank by using two old 650mAh puff device batteries (or any other) and a charging module. Moreover, its design is customizable and its construction is quite simple! Its capacity can quickly charge an iPhone 11 to around 30% in emergency situations or your wireless headset about three times.

Ingredients: What Legends Do We Need? 🛠️

Ingredients: What Legends Do We Need?

  1. Charging Circuit: The charging module whose image I shared above. Technical specifications:

    • Output Current: 3.1A

    • Dual USB Type-C Port: Both input and output supported

    • Intelligent Load Recognition: Automatically detects your device.

    • Protection Systems: Over current, over voltage and short circuit protection.

  1. Batteries 650mAh batteries (2 pcs) dismantled from old puff devices.

    • Energy capacity: 2.405Wh

    • Voltage: 3.7V

Alternatives: If you have different sized batteries on hand, no problem. Our design is fully parametric!

  2. Cable and Connections:

    • Battery connection cables

    • Several solder wires and soldering equipment

  3. Case:

    • Designed with Fusion 360: Optimised for SLA/FDM printers.

    • It can be personalised: It can be easily updated according to different battery sizes and quantities.

Why this Project?

  1. Recycling: Recycle old batteries, protect the environment.🔋

  2. Minimalist Design: A device compact enough to fit in the palm of the hand.

  3. The Pleasure of Making Your Own Powerbank!

Nasıl Yapılır?

1. Prepare Batteries

  • Carefully clean the batteries removed from the puff devices.

  • Check their voltage with a multimeter. A healthy battery usually measures around 3.7V.

2. Review Charging Module

  • Check the input and output connections of the charging module. Pay attention to the output port! Type-C support is a great advantage.

3. Connect Cables

  • We increase the total capacity by connecting the batteries in parallel. WARNING:Pay attention to the polarity terminals, reverse connection may damage your module.

  • Connect the batteries to the "+" and "-" inputs of the charging module.

4. Print Your Case

  • Print the case we designed using an SLA/FDM 3D printer. Do not forget the cleaning and curing processes after printing.

  • Extra Tip: You can add elegance by printing the design in different colours or transparent materials.

5. Combine Everything

  • Place the charging module and batteries in the chassis.

  • To fix the module to the case, you can use hot silicone or a suitable mounting mechanism.

Ready DIY Kit

If you don't want to bother with collecting materials, I have prepared a ready-made DIY kit for you. The kit includes the following:

  • Charging module

  • SLA print chassis

  • Two 650mAh batteries if desired

  • Required connection cables

Lastly...

This mini powerbank is not only a functional device, but also a project to recycle and enjoy the joy of making your own electronics. If you want to learn more about the construction process, here is the video tutorial.

Don't forget to try this project and share your results. Let's give your old batteries a new life! 💡🔋
